In company with TÜGVA Chairman İsmail Emanet, Foreign Affairs Coordinator Serra Diptaş with her delegation and Sümeyye Erdoğan and Burcu Çetinkaya on behalf of Turkey; “Reach Out to Asia” (ROTA) which is a member of Qatar Foundation attended the conference named “Empower” that was held in Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha. In the program to which the sister of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and ROTA Chairman Şeyha Maysa attended, Sümeyye Erdoğan and TÜGVA on behalf of Turkey were the center of attention.

Sümeyye Erdoğan who was the keynote speaker of the program of “Empower 2015” which its preparations were completed with the cooperation of our foundation and was held within the scope of Qatar-Turkey Year of Culture talked about youth’s contribution to world peace. In her speech, Erdoğan stated that labeling all believers of a belief as a “terrorist” is another form of terrorism and she laid emphasis on determining our ideals according to our beliefs. “If someone will make this world into a better place, believe me, he/she will not be a radical.” she said. Erdoğan described “Jihad” as struggling and said that jihad can be achieved through an academician who is the best and tells Islam to the world and a director who makes a movie which introduce real Islam to the world. “Here, our struggle is to work withinside the system, affect the system with a better way and disallow to be impressed by worse.” Erdoğan said. After she stated that the only definition of Jihad is not to fight in the war, “What did Prophet Muhammad say after he came back from the battle of Uhud? We ended small jihad, now we are going to great jihad which is the struggle with our nafs. That’s what I’m talking about. Terrorism is the most deathful and terrifying reality of our world today, it is the most exploited tool of the world at the same time. Terror demonic however someone who exploit it is demonic as well. Labeling all believers of a belief as ‘terrorist’ is another form of terrorism. When believers of other beliefs do something, they are examined just like a forensic case. However, when a Muslim does the same thing, he/she is directly labeled as a terrorist. This is totally unacceptable. We do not approve the use of expressions such as terrorist and terrorism in company with Islam. This way of thinking does not comply with justice or international law. Without analyzing root causes, every effort against terrorism is the biggest support to it.” she added. She also talked about the responsibilities that youth should take: “If we do not support people who suffer from violence in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Palestine, Mynmar, Turkistan and around the world, do not struggle to solve problems; we will have to put up with these kinds of accusations. If we do not use the existing potential of this geography for our own vision and aims; this cruelty will carry on, and the attempt and ongoing process to marginalise and alienate us will increase its volume. Unlike somebody who aims at creating clash of civilizations, we spread divine expression of real civilization, Adam and Prophet Muhammad.”

In the program which NGOs from 23 different countries attended, TÜGVA on behalf of Turkey talked about future collaborative projects with the hosting institution. Within the scope of Qatar-Turkey Year of Culture, it is decided to organize activities in the areas of culture, art, sport and education in order to bring the youth of two countries together.
